There has been talk for some time now of a possible FIFA 2K in development, with 2K Sports already said to have the official FIFA licenses. All rumors that were commented on by Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two, during the last meeting with shareholders.
Without directly confirming or denying the rumors, the head of Take-Two immediately puts his hands up by implying that giving life to a FIFA 2K25 or in general to a FIFA 2K in the coming years would be a very complicated challenge for the internal label 2K Sports. “I note that the FIFA license does not carry with it rights for players, teams and leagues. So it is not as simple as negotiating with the NBA, NFL or MLB which requires at most dealing with a league and a players’ association. Anyone who wants to get into the world of soccer simulations can’t limit themselves to licensing a single brand, there is much more work to do”, says Zelnick.
From the words of the CEO of Take-Two emerges the possibility that a FIFA 2K is still a long way from becoming a reality: “We are aware that it is really difficult to build a great simulation experience for consoles, it takes a long time. But if you do it well you create loyal and integrated users”. Zelnick has in any case specified that 2K already has the managerial title Top Eleven dedicated to football and defines it as “the number one” in its field. He finally added that the NBA and WWE are “great partners” for his company, with their respective series that continue to be a certainty for Take-Two. And who knows if FIFA will not be added to these in the near future.
EA Sports FC 25 will debut on September 27, 2024, and for now it seems that it will continue to play without a direct competitor from 2K. But the feeling is that one day we could hear about FIFA again in the video game world.
