Sony has said that PlayStation Studios plans to release hit games “consistently and continuously.” Sony Interactive Entertainment is looking to refine its development process and release schedules to ensure this.
This is surprising given that PlayStation Studios recently admitted that it is struggling to maintain sustainable profits despite its highly successful games. These games include the PC port of Ghost of Tsushima and The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, but it has not been enough to stop layoffs at PlayStation Studios.
During this process, over 900 positions were cut at PlayStation Studios and a new management structure was created under joint CEOs Herman Hulst and Hideaki Nishino.
Sony announced its earnings in its first quarter fiscal 2024 financial results two days ago. During the earnings call, Sony discussed its commitment to strengthening its development schedule: “Studio Business Group is strengthening its development schedule management and streamlining development projects to consistently and continuously deliver hit games.”
In addition to this, they are also working to “maintain and expand” the number of active PlayStation users while increasing user engagement. The goal is to “create a stable revenue base,” which is one of the top priorities for PlayStation Studios.
