Oh yes, you would have to be a cat. Lazing around all day, letting yourself be petted until you get tired of it, and exploring the world whenever you want. Chasing a little mouse here and there and floating through the sea on a lifebuoy. Well, if you thought cats were afraid of water, you don’t know the adventurous cats of Cat Quest 3 very well!

Cat Quest 3 | Review | Sweet pirate adventure for in between
The gentlebros from Singapore have done it again and are serving us a new furry adventure. While the first part of the Paw Trilogy saw us battle dragons and medieval monsters in knight’s armor, dogs suddenly appeared in the second part. The third part is (haha) almost out of the ordinary.
Are you a mouse or a cat?!
At the beginning we choose between a tomcat and a cat. We soon meet our constant companion Captain Cappy – a small, blue ghost who constantly provides us with fairly obvious information. At this point we should mention that we can experience a lot on the many islands of the cat Caribbean. Where we go next is always up to us. There are no quest markers.
Source: Kepler Interactive But what is it all about? In the 2.5D action role-playing game, we are pirates of the seven seas searching for the North Star. This is a long-lost, mystical treasure that every pirate is chasing. Accordingly, we keep encountering enemies along the way that we have to defeat.
As is typical for Cat Quest, you use magic, fight and shoot your way through the world with a variety of weapons and abilities. For a real pirate adventure, however, we don’t just travel on foot, but also in our pirate ship. Just like our land weapons, we also diligently upgrade the Queen of the Seas. Because there is no getting around sea battles in Cat Quest. Even if they mostly consist of drifts, cannon shooting and strange evasive maneuvers.
Ahoy, comrades!
As befits a real pirate adventure, we not only explore the various islands, but also interact with our furry friends. Good-natured as we are, we don’t go on a raid through the towns, but help little kittens and other animals in need.

On the horizon, crooks, the pirate rats, are waiting for us, who are equally looking for the North Star or just looking for trouble. If we kill one of the dreaded pirates, we can collect the corresponding bounty from Mama Milka in her milk bar.
We then use the money to improve our weapons and equipment at the blacksmith. Cat Quest 3 (buy now for €29.99) offers an extensive arsenal of different armor and weapons. Cleverly combined, they turn our sweet house cat into a real wildcat.
Source: Kepler Interactive If used correctly, no opponent will be able to keep up with us. Attacks can generate extra mana or spells can cause further explosions. We will quickly become the king of the pirates.
That’s not an exaggeration. The main story of Cat Quest 3 is very quick to play through and doesn’t go into too much depth, of course. Nevertheless, it has one or two surprises in store.
Lots of calm and humor
Cat Quest is not a sprint. It is more of a game that invites you to relax and unwind. The game is particularly well suited for the Steam Deck and Nintendo Switch. Take a short 20-minute session, roam the seas a bit and complete a few side quests. But that’s enough. Here and there we might explore a few dungeons, but they aren’t too time-consuming.
Source: Kepler Interactive This is also due to the relatively low level of difficulty. When we saw the game over screen, it was usually due to our own stupidity, rather than the difficulty of the game. The small enemies on the map surface are generally not a threat. Even small boss fights are pretty easy to handle. Only the “bigger” boss fights at the end of a tower required a little more combat experience. But even here there is still no reason to panic.
Cat Quest 3 is ideal as a quick game to play in between other things. Don’t expect a deep story, but the German translation is convincing with its funny wordplay. There is no voice output, by the way – at least not beyond the occasional meow.
If the adventure alone is too boring for you, grab a friend and experience the sea adventure in co-op. You can switch between single and multiplayer at any time in a save slot.
Rating for Cat Quest 3 (PC)
Conclusion
Cat Quest 3 is a colorful role-playing adventure for in-between times. Its strengths are particularly evident on handhelds such as the Nintendo Switch or the Steam Deck. You shouldn’t expect a deep story, but you do get a concentrated load of funny word games and quick successes.
Whether you’re a dog person or a cat lover, Cat Quest is entertaining for every animal lover. And especially after an hour-long Diablo session that once again demanded everything from us, a little colorful adventure in a toned-down form is a welcome treat.
