After having opened the Xbox Showcase with a bang with the official announcement of DOOM The Dark Ages, id Software is said to have held a closed-door hands-on during QuakeCon 2024: the rumors that are leaking online describe a truly spectacular title, an FPS destined to make all fans happy.
Fueling the community’s curiosity is a Redditor who reports all the testimonies collected anonymously from those who, according to him, participated in this closed-door test of The Dark Ages.
According to the leaker, the build shown behind closed doors by id Software to journalists and industry insiders who attended QuakeCon would have highlighted the many qualities of the new combat system created by the subsidiary of Bethesda and Microsoft.
In the long list drawn up by the Redditor to summarize the highlights of this demo, the leaker reports that DOOM The Dark Ages will boast significantly larger environments than Eternal and a wider arsenal, with shields that will have multiple uses depending on the context: the Doom Guy will be able to alternate between melee and firearms by throwing the shield to disorient smaller enemies or tear the flesh of larger monsters with the cogwheel that runs along the entire perimeter of the shield.
No less interesting is the passage in which the Redditor claims to have witnessed in-game Execution sequences that are very different from those experienced by Slayer emulators in DOOM Eternal and the previous reboot: the new special kills, in fact, should be more dynamic, with users asked to choose which executions to carry out each time.
While we wait for further news or an official denial from id Software, we remind you that during QuakeCon 2024, the definitive collection DOOM + DOOM 2 was surprisingly released on PC, consoles and Xbox Game Pass.
