Less than a week remains until The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is removed from the Game Pass subscription – the game will be removed from the service on August 16. The project was released a year ago, and it was immediately added to the Microsoft gaming service after its release. Over 4.5 million users have tried the game on Game Pass alone, and it received an Xbox Excellence Award for outstanding results in the subscription last year.
Gun Media studio executives do not rule out that The Texas Chain Saw Massacre game may return to the subscription in the future. In an interview for GameStop Gun Media’s Wes Keltner said Game Pass was a great platform for their asynchronous multiplayer project:
“We owe a lot to Game Pass and the team at Xbox for the game’s visibility and success to date. Now that our time with Game Pass is coming to an end, it’s time to focus on the future of the game, which is looking very positive.
Game Pass is a great program, especially for smaller teams like ours trying to push relatively new genres. It removes a lot of the barriers to entry for players and allows them to try a lot of games and genres that they otherwise would never have tried. (…) And while a lot of subscribers are using the program to continue playing now, we have an active and loyal player base that has been with us since launch across all platforms. And we think a lot of Game Pass players will upgrade, especially since they get a discount from Xbox for doing so. It’s a pretty good deal, I think.
We’ve enjoyed our time in the Game Pass ecosystem, and who knows, maybe we’ll return to it again in the future. Being one of the most popular games on Game Pass last year and winning an Xbox Excellence Award is usually a good sign that a game will not only return to the program, but will have a bright future full of new content and experiences.”
As of February 2024, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre has sold 1.1 million copies and has approximately 4.5 million players on Game Pass.
