Russian YouTube traffic is still a long way off from falling to zero.
Problems with access to YouTube, observed in Russia since August 1, began to manifest themselves in statistics Google: Since August 8, there has been a noticeable drop in YouTube traffic in statistics.
It was on August 8 that Russian residents began to complain about the complete unavailability of the service. Starting from August 1, YouTube’s speed dropped significantly in Russia, but the slowdown of the service did not affect the statistics in any way.
Compared to previous days, YouTube traffic on August 8-9 decreased by about 20%. Apparently, a significant portion of Russian residents still have YouTube open or are using means to bypass the blocking.
Officially, YouTube’s speed has decreased due to the gradual failure of Google’s caching servers. The company itself claims that there are no technical problems; it is assumed that YouTube’s speed is being artificially reduced.
According to Forbes, Roskomnadzor is currently searching for Google cache servers installed in Russia. Disabling these servers could further worsen the quality of YouTube.
