As part of this year’s D23 event in Anaheim, California, Disney finally revealed new details about the next big science fiction epic “Avatar 3”.
It has long been no secret that the legendary film series “Avatar” by cult director James Cameron will span several big screen adventures. According to current plans, there will be at least five films about the inhabitants of the mysterious and beautiful planet Pandora. The latest news about “Avatar 3” reveals more.

As part of this year’s edition of Disney’s D23 event, both director James Cameron and actors Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington were guests. On stage, they had a lot to say about the next film, which will now officially be called “Avatar: Fire and Ash.”
This corresponds well with the previous rumors surrounding “Avatar 3,” according to which the Fire Clan or the so-called Ash People will appear for the first time. The representatives of this faction may represent the darker and destructive side of the Na’vi.
Speaking at this year’s D23, Cameron said the next Avatar film may not be what fans are expecting, but it is what they want. The community can look forward to new locations, additional characters, and one particular character they will surely hate.
How successful is the Avatar franchise actually?
The fact that James Cameron and Disney want to hold on to the “Avatar” brand for as long as possible is not surprising given the huge success of the films released so far. “Avatar: The Way of Water” from 2009 was already an absolute box office hit.
To date, it has grossed more than $2.9 billion worldwide, making it by far the most successful film of all time.
The sequel, “Avatar: The Way of Water,” only hit the big screen last year after numerous delays and other problems. It too quickly turned out to be a mega-success: the sequel brought in just over 2.3 billion dollars for Disney, which is enough to put it in third place in the all-time charts.
There are now even several computer and video games such as “Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora”, and the third movie is getting closer and closer. After a long period of silence, there is finally some news about this.

According to current plans, “Avatar: Fire and Ash” will be released in cinemas on December 19, 2025 – at least in the USA. German fans will be able to admire the film on the big screen from December 17 of next year.
