Capcom responds to inquiry about lowering PC game prices in emerging countries
Shareholders asked if such a strategy would lead to increased revenue, but Capcom does not seem convincedhttps://t.co/63x9M3oeC2— AUTOMATON WEST (@AUTOMATON_ENG) August 9, 2024
In the Q1 FY 2024 financial report Q&A session, Capcom was asked by an investor about PC game sales and the possibility of lowering PC game prices in certain countries.
Citing the fact that PC games account for more than 50% of Capcom’s game sales, the investor proposed a strategy of lowering prices in emerging markets to secure higher sales. However, Capcom seems unsure whether the strategy will be effective.
“It’s hard to say, but in developing countries and other regions, there is a tendency for console games that are two or three generations old to be played more,” Capcom replied as translated by Automaton.
“To comfortably play the latest games released over the past few years, you will need a PC with specifications on par with the latest consoles, so we expect it will be some time before these games are playable.”
Capcom added, “We hope to increase PC sales not only through GDP and pricing measures, but also by implementing detailed long-term marketing strategies and promotional measures to attract core PC users.”
