Japanese studio Tango Gameworks was closed by Microsoft Gaming in May of this year. Today, August 12, it was announced that it would be revived, but under another publishing house – KRAFTON. This is a rather rare story in the industry, when a studio can be restored after an official closure, and KRAFTON received not only the rights to the Tango Gameworks brand, but also the Hi-Fi Rush franchise, and were able to retain a significant portion of its employees.
The gaming industry has responded to the resurgence of Tango Gameworks, including some prominent members of the Xbox team.
Tango Gameworks’ creative director John Johannes took to social media to say the studio was “back.”
Microsoft Gaming’s Arkane Lyon studio head (which is currently working on a game based on the Blade franchise) Dinga Bakaba also took note of the Japanese studio’s return. Recall that he actively criticized Microsoft when it closed Tango Gameworks and Arkane Austin.
Obsidian’s Josh Sawyer also took to social media to express his positive feelings about Tango Gameworks’ revival.
The reaction also came from some gaming journalists and analysts, including representatives from Digital Foundry and GamesIndustry.
