Rumor: Developers Asked Not to Expect Nintendo’s New Console to Release Before April 2025

Recent reports have revealed that developers have been told not to expect Nintendo’s new console to release before April 2025.

“No developer I’ve spoken to expects it to launch this financial year,” Dring claims. “In fact, they’ve been told not to expect it in the (current) financial year. A lot of people I’ve spoken to expect it to launch in April or May, early next year, not later.”

Dring added, “I don’t think any of us wanted a delayed Switch 2 launch because we all want a new Nintendo console, everyone is really excited about it, and we didn’t want the crunch of Grand Theft Auto VI and Switch and all that kind of stuff on top of each other.”

Bloomberg journalist Takashi Mochizuki also added that in early 2024, Nikkei Asia claimed the release of Nintendo’s new console would come as early as March 2025. However, people he has spoken to about the month are increasingly less optimistic.

“Indeed, earlier this year it was said ‘next March at the earliest,’ but lately fewer people have been mentioning March as a possibility,” Mochizuki wrote in X.

In April 2024, Vandal reported that Nintendo’s new console would likely feature magnetic joy-cons.

In May 2024, Nintendo announced that they would reveal the successor to the Nintendo Switch before March 31, 2025.
