Russian video hosting RuTube continues to rapidly increase its user base amid YouTube’s slowdown. As reported by TASSin August 2024, the daily audience of the video hosting service amounted to 9 million people, which means more than double growth compared to July, when this figure was 4 million.
According to the publication Telegram channel RuTube, recently the daily audience growth exceeds 500 thousand new users. “+500 thousand people daily! Yesterday we reached 9 million daily audience, in July the average figure was 4 million (according to Mediascope). Cartoons for children broke into the top charts, which were watched 4 times more often,” the message says.
The growth in the number of RuTube users is taking place against the backdrop of problems that have arisen in the operation of Google’s YouTube video hosting service in Russia. According to experts, the increase in the audience of the domestic video service is explained not only by YouTube’s problems, but also by the placement of pirated content on the site from film studios and streaming services that have left Russia. As previously reported, Netflix series (The Witcher, The Queen’s Gambit, and others), Oppenheimer films (distributed by Universal Pictures), Barbie, and the second part of Dune (Warner Bros. Pictures), etc., which have not been officially released in Russia, are currently available on the platform.
