A significant increase in consumer memory prices is expected. Information about this has been circulating for a long time, but it seems that the moment when forecasts will begin to be realized is approaching. Taiwanese sources write that one of the leading memory manufacturers SK Hynix is preparing to increase prices for DRAM memory.
Against the backdrop of high demand for HBM memory for the server segment for AI computing, manufacturers are forced to switch to this market segment. SK Hynix previously stated that all production lines for HBM production for 2024 are booked. The company even has to reorient 30% of its DRAM production capacity to HBM production. All this affects the supply of DDR4 and DDR5 memory. And against this backdrop, SK Hynix is preparing to raise prices for DDR5 memory by 15-20%.
Similar processes are underway at Samsung and Micron. Other manufacturers may follow SK Hynix and raise the prices of their DRAM chips. In the long term, we are talking about an average increase in consumer memory prices of up to 50%. This could happen in a few months or in a few weeks. And now is probably the best time to buy more memory for your home PC.
