Numerous politicians have confirmed their participation in the gamescom congress on August 22, 2024 in Cologne. Together with more than 130 speakers from all over the world, they will discuss at the congress how the potential of computer and video games can be used in the best possible way and what framework conditions must be created for a prosperous games industry. In over 60 program items, the gamescom congress highlights the diverse opportunities that games offer for social, economic and technological progress.
In the panel “Games location no. 1 – How can Germany catch up?”, top politicians from federal and state governments Michael Kellner (Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection), Nathanael Liminski (Minister for Federal and European Affairs, International Affairs and Media of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia), Franziska Giffey (Senator for Economic Affairs, Energy and Enterprises and Mayor of Berlin) and Dr. Fabian Mehring (Bavarian State Minister for Digital Affairs) debate the best strategies to make the German games industry more internationally competitive. Frauke Holzmeier (Head of Business at RTL News) moderates the talk.
“The gamescom congress is a unique forum for examining and discussing the diverse potential of games for our social interactions. With this year’s focus on ‘Games and Artificial Intelligence’ and ‘Games and Democracy’, the congress is focusing on two highly topical issues that affect everyone’s lives. If Germany as a games location wants to be at the forefront of international competition, we must continue to catch up and launch intelligent funding mechanisms for our national games industry. North Rhine-Westphalia has been setting a good example for many years.”
Nathanael Liminski, Minister for Federal and European Affairs, International Affairs and Media of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and Head of the State Chancellery.
