An entry from the ESRB indicates that “Gothic 3” is apparently another part of the cult role-playing series that will be released for consoles. However, an official announcement is still pending.
As is well known, the developers at Alkimia Interactive are working on a completely revised remake of the role-playing classic “Gothic”, which was released in 2001.
Apparently, the remake in question is not the only new edition that fans of the role-playing series can look forward to. Instead, the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB for short) seems to have anticipated a surprise from publisher THQ Nordic.
A quickly removed ESRB entry It was clear that “Gothic 3” is the next classic to find its way onto consoles.
Is the official announcement of Gothic 3 Classic approaching?
According to the ESRB rating, the new edition is called “Gothic 3 Classic” and is set to be released for the PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. Thanks to the support of backwards compatibility, the implementation of the role-playing classic should also be playable on the current PS5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles.
The original “Gothic 3”, like its two predecessors, was created by the now-closed German studio Piranha Bytes and was released for the PC in 2006.
The plot of “Gothic 3” follows on seamlessly from the events of the second part. The nameless hero leaves the island of Khorinis on the ship Esmeralda and returns to the mainland with his friends. The group quickly finds itself in a far-reaching conflict with orcs who have conquered and occupied parts of the game world.
As in its two predecessors, players in “Gothic 3” can join different factions or improve and learn skills from teachers.
Not the first implementation for consoles
THQ Nordic officials have not yet commented on the current rumors about “Gothic 3 Classic” for consoles. However, this would not be the first classic offshoot of the role-playing series to find its way onto consoles. Last year, both “Gothic Classic” and “Gothic 2 Complete Classic” were released for the Switch.
While the Switch version of the first part suffered from all sorts of errors at release, the port of the second part, which also included “The Night of the Raven,” was much better received.
If THQ Nordic officially announces “Gothic 3 Classic”, we will of course update you immediately.
