In the past, fans have repeatedly called for a release of “Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots” for the current consoles. Konami’s producer Noriaki Okamura fueled the rumors of such an implementation with a rather obvious hint.
Last fall, Konami released the “Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection.” The content included the first three installments in the “Metal Gear Solid” series.
In addition, a comprehensively revised remake of “Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater” from 2004 is currently being developed. As was recently confirmed, the date of the remake will be revealed this year. While various “Metal Gear Solid” classics have found their way onto various systems in the past, fans of “Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots” have so far been left empty-handed.
According to current reports, the spin-off released for the PS3 in 2008 could finally be released for other platforms in the foreseeable future. This is at least what Konami’s Noriaki Okamura’s statements suggest.
Is Konami working on another Master Collection?
In an interview with his colleagues, he pointed out by IGN on the second “Master Collection”, the development of which was confirmed in the spring. Regarding the content on offer, Okamura hinted, not very subtly, that “Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots” could also be part of the content offered in the second collection.
“We are definitely aware of the situation surrounding Metal Gear Solid 4,” said Okamura. “Unfortunately, we can’t say much about it right now. Since Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 includes Metal Gear Solid 1-3… you can probably guess the rest. Right now, we’re still thinking internally about what to do with the series in the future.”
“We’re sorry, but we can’t reveal anything more at the moment. But stay tuned,” the producer continued.
What content does the second collection offer?
Last year we already received rumors about the content that could be waiting for us in the second “Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection”. As placeholders on the official website suggested, the next collection could include “Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots” (the title discussed in this report), “Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain” (2015) and “Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker”.
IGN editors “confirmed” the contents of “Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2” in fall 2023, citing statements from an internal source familiar with the matter.
Despite everything, it must of course be pointed out that Konami has not yet officially announced the contents of the second collection.
