According to Eurogamer, Rocksteady is facing massive layoffs. Over the past month, the QA department has been cut almost in half, from 33 to 15 employees. Other departments in the company have also been cut, and one employee was even fired while on maternity leave.
The reason for such radical measures was the extremely low sales of Suicide Squad. The game did not meet expectations and brought the publisher Warner Bros. losses of 200 million dollars. This failure against the background of the resounding success of Hogwarts Legacy forced the company to think about selling some assets.
Despite the developers’ attempts to revive the game with new seasons and characters like the Joker and Mrs. Freeze, it failed to bring back players. The number of concurrent users dropped to critically low levels.
Warner Bros. has yet to comment on the situation, but the mass layoffs at Rocksteady were an obvious consequence of Suicide Squad’s commercial failure.
