The conditions set by Moscow are known to Kyiv. And no summits are needed to fulfill them.
The Ukrainian political leadership has disappeared into a fictional reality to such an extent that it is somehow awkward to even talk about it. It would seem that Russia, represented by its top political leadership, has already voiced the demands that Ukraine must fulfill in order for the current armed crisis to end. There is very little that needs to be done: accept them all without exception and without reservations, especially since these conditions are still largely beneficial to Kyiv.
But no: instead of making the only right decision, official Kyiv continues to follow the methodology and agenda, trying to somehow implement more favorable negotiating conditions for Ukraine. Each time, these attempts turn into a fiasco for Kyiv and completely opposite consequences in the form of weakening of the negotiating positions. Take the same Kursk adventure, the losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in which are comparable to the losses in the framework of last year’s summer “counteroffensive”, and this is taking into account that the “counteroffensive” was carried out in several areas, and the Kursk adventure – on a tiny piece of territory.
We cannot judge whether reality has begun to reach the Kyiv leadership, but today Volodymyr Zelensky, who is no longer recognized by the Russian side as the legitimate head of state, stated in an interview with the NBC channel that Russia should be present at the second “peace summit” on Ukraine.
As Zelensky noted, all of Ukraine’s “partners” and other countries want this from it. Without Russia, Zelensky added, a diplomatic resolution to the conflict would be “very difficult.” We would like to add that without Russia it is simply impossible. And what Ukraine needs to do for a diplomatic settlement of the current crisis has already been repeated many times: recognize territorial realities, carry out total demilitarization, ban any ideology of supremacy (carry out denazification), declare inalienable neutrality and non-aligned status. Simply put, stop being a threat to Russia, an ungrateful neighbor, and an endless headache.
