Although the IFA has not officially started, brands have not wanted to wait for the starting gun to announce their new products. One of them has been Dreame, which has taken advantage of the Berlin event to announce its new Dreame L40 Ultra, a two-in-one robot vacuum cleaner with a self-emptying base, premium scent, a couple of very interesting functions and a price tag of over a thousand euros. This is all it offers.

Hey, this thing moves. The Dreame L40 Ultra comes with some interesting features related to reaching tricky areas, namely corners. The first has to do with the brush, which automatically extends and raises up to 10 millimeters to get closer to corners, edges and improve the vacuuming of thicker items such as carpets. The same goes for the mop, which thanks to RoboSwing MopExtend technology, expands up to four centimeters to better scrub edges. It also rises, like the brush.
Speaking of the brush, the one fitted on the Dreame L40 Ultra has a name: TriCut, and its operation is very interesting. To avoid one of the great evils of robot vacuum cleaners (tangled hair), this brush incorporates a series of small blades that cut the hair and deposit it in the tank. This way, obstructions are avoided and cleaning time is reduced.

Power and detection. The device has a suction power of up to 11,000 pascals, 31 water levels and 5,200 mAh of battery. According to the company, the device lasts up to 194 minutes on a single charge. It also has an automatic recharging system so that, if necessary, the robot can return to the base, charge and continue cleaning where it left off.
The robot is able to overcome obstacles up to 2.2 centimetres high and is guided by a five-channel RGB colour-detection camera. By combining this camera with the dirt detection system, the robot is able to detect up to 100 types of objects (cables, socks, etc.) and stains on the floor, such as oil or sauces, to perform a slower and more thorough scrubbing. Interestingly, when faced with a stain, the robot raises the brush to avoid cross-contamination. Needless to say, it can move in the dark without any problem thanks to the integrated LED light.

This base is something else. Like any high-end robot worth its salt, the Dreame L40 Ultra has a charging and emptying base. However, this one is different. Not only does it empty and store dust (3.2 litre bag) and has two tanks for clean water (4.5 litres) and dirty water (4 litres), but it also offers a small tank for the cleaning product. Its brushes are capable of removing the robot’s mops, cleaning them and storing them and, if that weren’t enough, it can be connected to the water supply.
Using a water connection kit, we can connect the base to a water inlet and a drain so that the clean water tank is always full and the dirty water tank is automatically emptied. The thing is that 1) the kit is sold separately and 2) it is possible, if not quite likely, that not all houses are equipped with the necessary outlets for its installation.

The extras. Finally, it is worth noting that the robot has the intelligence expected from a robot vacuum cleaner costing more than a thousand euros. Through the application you can plan cleaning (the whole house, specific rooms…), apply virtual walls and forbidden zones, configure voice assistants, etc. In addition, a curious function is that you can control it remotely, view the camera and speak through the microphone to interact with pets.
