HMD has unveiled the Fusion smartphone, which it calls a modular device. The new product supports special interchangeable cases that can expand the functionality of the gadget, for example, by adding support for wireless charging, enhancing its protection, or adding better lighting for the rear camera.
The back covers are attached to the device using the Smart Pins contact system. The manufacturer offers the ability to create your own cases for Fusion using 3D printing. The company has published all the necessary tools and documentation on your websiteHMD itself will begin selling branded cases for Fusion in the fourth quarter of this year.
The HMD Fusion is housed in a translucent plastic case and has an advanced level of repairability. The smartphone provides quick access to the battery, screen, and other key components. HMD also promises to offer spare parts for it through iFixit for the next seven years.
Fusion is equipped with a 6.56-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1612 × 720 pixels and a refresh rate of 90 Hz. The new product has a 50 MP camera on the front. The main camera unit consists of a 108 MP sensor and a 2 MP sensor for calculating the depth of the scene. The main camera is equipped with an electronic image stabilizer (EIS), supports night shooting mode and AI HDR.
HMD Fusion is powered by a Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 processor (two Cortex-A78 cores with a frequency of 2.2 GHz, six Cortex-A55 cores with a frequency of 2.0 GHz, Adreno 613 GPU). The device offers 6 or 8 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of storage. The latter can be expanded with support for microSD memory cards. Everything runs on Android 14. HMD promises two years of OS updates for the device and three years of security updates. The device is powered by a 5000 mAh battery with support for 33 W fast charging.
HMD Fusion will go on sale first in Europe, with prices starting at €249.
