The new Honor MagicBook Art 14 is an ultralight laptop with a unique surprise: a removable webcam that attaches magnetically
Chinese manufacturer Honor has unveiled a striking new laptop at the IFA 2024 event. This product had actually already been unveiled a few months ago in China, but the new Honor MagicBook Art 14 is now available outside China.
This ultra-light laptop stands out for its ultra-thin design, but above all for the inclusion of a detachable webcam that attaches and detaches to the computer using an ingenious magnetic system. It’s a remarkable option, but the computer is somewhat compromised by using last year’s Intel Meteor Lake processors.

We love the webcam…
At first glance, the device stands out for its design. We are looking at an ultra-light (1.03 kg) and ultra-thin (11.5 mm) laptop that opts for the wedge format of the “old” MacBook Air.
The webcam module is hidden on the side of the device.
There is one surprise in this design: there is no webcam built into the display, which makes the side and top bezels really thin. Only at the bottom is the bezel a bit thicker, but it is still tiny. So where is the webcam?
The answer is simple: it isn’t. Or it is, but only when we want it to be. Honor has included a magnetic system on the top edge of the screen that allows you to pick up the small webcam module, which is “loose”, and attach it to that edge.
This module with the webcam is “hidden” on the side of the laptop so that we don’t lose it and always have it at hand, so to use it we can simply remove it from that location and attach it to the top edge of the screen. Once we do this, the computer will detect this connection and enable the webcam in case we want to use it to, for example, make a video call.
This system is very striking because it offers an additional level of protection for our privacy. Other manufacturers have already made the use of privacy switches that cover the webcam lens popular, but here Honor goes further and directly allows the camera to be decoupled to prevent a hacker from spying on us with it if it infiltrates with a RAT.
….but the CPU is a bit late
The hardware configuration of this device is remarkable in almost every aspect. For example, its 14.3-inch OLED screen, with a remarkable resolution, touchscreen and a 3:2 aspect ratio that allows us to work focused on a single task and with a single window on the screen.
However, there is a slightly less favourable note in their choice of processor. These machines come to market with Intel Meteor Lake processors, an option that is not at all bad, but which is compromised because it has just been replaced by the more powerful and efficient Lunar Lake processors, which many manufacturers have started to use.
If we can forgive that decision — the device has been available in China for months, and the delay has taken its toll — we have before us a promising device that, for example, has Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity. The memory configurations are not revealed, but LPDDR5x modules are used. As for storage, we can count on up to 1 TB of SSD.
The port offering is also notable, and we have two USB-C ports, one USB-A and even a full-size HDMI 2.1 port. The power button doubles as a fingerprint sensor.
There’s also a promising six-speaker system that incorporates Magic Space Audio technology to offer a more immersive experience. Video conferencing is also covered with a three-microphone array to improve voice quality during video conferencing.
