Nintendo Switch 2 hasn’t been announced yet and the only thing we know that’s official is that Nintendo is working on a “successor to Nintendo Switch”, which is something we all took for granted. That said, rumors continue to pop up online and one of the latest confirms a feature that everyone wants and that many take for granted.
According to Nate the Hate, a well-known gaming insider, Nintendo Switch 2 will be backwards compatible, meaning it will allow you to play games from the current console from the Kyoto company.
Nintendo Switch 2 Rumor Details
The information was shared in a Reddit thread, which speculates that the Nintendo Switch 2 is now in mass production. Nate the Hate chimed in, saying that what he can confirm is that the console does have backwards compatibility support.

This isn’t the first time the issue has been discussed. Earlier this year, a Nintendo Switch peripheral manufacturer – Mobapad – said the upcoming console would be backwards compatible with both physical and digital games.
It should also be noted that this is not an unexpected feature. Not only do current-gen consoles from Sony and Microsoft offer the same feature, which helps make it an industry standard, but it is to Nintendo’s advantage that the new platform can play the huge catalog of masterpieces already available. This makes it easier for many gamers to jump on the new console right at launch, since they can sell their previous one without fear of losing access to their library.
In any case, it remains a rumor and we will have to wait for an official announcement from Nintendo about it. How long will we have to wait? Maybe not too long: Nintendo Switch 2 could be announced this month, a well-known journalist seems to indicate.
