There are now just a few days left until the debut of Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine 2, a riot of violence ready to put on a show on PC and consoles from September 9th. But what are the differences between the various versions of the game? The ever-punctual ElAnalistaDeBits has provided the answer to this question in a comparison video.
As for the graphics modes on consoles, there are no differences to report: on both PS5 and Xbox Series X we have the quality mode at 2160p/30fps with upscaling from 1440p and the performance mode at 1080p/60fps with upscaling from 1080p. The PC version shown here reaches 2160p resolution and benefits from DLSS 2 and graphics options set to maximum, for an inevitable visual and technical quality superior to the console counterparts.
Quality mode therefore features a higher resolution on consoles at the cost of 30 fps. Beyond the sheer pixel count, the mode offers improved graphical settings such as shadows, reflections, textures, cloth physics and water physics. However, these visual changes are not that noticeable when you are immersed in the action.
There is some visual clipping on the Xbox Series S in performance mode compared to the PS5 and Series X, especially with foliage and ambient occlusion. All console versions in quality mode lock to 30fps with good consistency. In performance mode, the Xbox Series X generally runs a higher frame rate than the PS5, but both platforms struggle to maintain 60fps during more intense moments.
The analysis also confirms that the game does not use any kind of Ray-Tracing and that the PC version only features DLSS 2, with DLSS 3 to be enabled at a later date. All things considered, ElAnalistaDeBits considers “Space Marine 2 one of the new benchmarks” from a technical standpoint, placing Saber Interactive’s game alongside titles like Hellblade 2 and Black Myth Wukong.
