Lexar has introduced the world’s first stainless steel SD memory cards, the Armor Gold SD UHS-II and Armor Silver Pro SD UHS-II, joining the Lexar Armor series of rugged portable SSDs. This was reported by Tom’s Hardware.
The new cards boast bend resistance and IP68 water and dust protection. According to Lexar, the new memory cards are “ideal for shooting outdoors.” The Armor Gold SD UHS-II and Armor Silver Pro SD UHS-II cards are made of 316 stainless steel, which provides greater bend resistance and greater durability than conventional plastic-cased models, the manufacturer notes.
Lexar said the new cards support the PCIe 4.0 interface and are capable of “delivering smooth 8K RAW video capture.” Both models support sequential read speeds of 280 MB/s. The Armor Gold SD UHS-II has a sequential write speed of 205 MB/s, while the Armor Silver Pro SD UHS-II has a sequential write speed of 160 MB/s.
The new Lexar Armor Gold SD UHS-II and Armor Silver Pro SD UHS-II cards will be available in 128, 256, 512 GB and 1 TB capacities. The price and launch dates for the new products will be announced a little later.
