When Huawei announced the first-of-its-kind foldable smartphone Mate XT with a three-section flexible display, it only said that the new product would soon be launched in China. It seems that the Chinese manufacturer still plans to sell its foldable smartphone in three parts in other markets.
Shortly after the Mate XT was unveiled, Huawei’s X social media account posted a promotional image of the smartphone, but there was no mention of an upcoming launch outside of its home market. Now, Huawei’s global YouTube account has posted a one-minute video showing off key design elements of the Mate XT, as well as mentioning the technologies that made this unusual smartphone possible.
While Huawei’s video doesn’t mention a launch of the Mate XT outside of China, the fact that the video is on YouTube suggests that it could. Interestingly, Huawei has set the launch of the new Mate Pad and Glide Keyboard for September 19. That’s also the day that pre-orders for the Mate XT in China end. It’s possible that Huawei will reveal more about its plans for a global launch at the event.
In the Mate XT, the developers demonstrated Huawei’s most innovative capabilities, and consumers will have to pay a lot for this – the retail price of the smartphone is an impressive $2,800. Repairing the gadget will not be cheap either. For example, screen repair costs more than $1,100, and replacing the motherboard – more than $1,200.
