The online encyclopedia “Wikipedia”, owned by the American organization Wikimedia Foundation, throughout the current year deleted at the request of Roskomnadzor, only 1 out of 201 materials. In 2023, the resource administration also removed only one material with illegal information, a representative of the regulator said.

In total, in 2024, Wikipedia identified 129 materials related to fake information about the progress of a special military operation. The remaining articles are related to the dissemination of extremist materials, information about the involvement of minors in committing illegal actions, information about the manufacture of explosives, as well as suicidal, pro-drug and other content, the distribution of which is prohibited in Russia.
Roskomnadzor reported that for failure to remove prohibited information from Wikipedia, search engines will inform users about violations of Russian legislation by a foreign legal entity. Previously, Wikipedia was already fined 4 million for refusing to remove information prohibited for distribution in Russia. At the same time, it is quite difficult to completely block a resource, since at the moment there are no full-fledged analogues in the country that could replace Wikipedia.
