The success of Baldur’s Gate 3 from Larian Studios is beyond doubt, but the Belgian studio continues to keep specific indicators secret. The secrets of the developers of the fantasy RPG were revealed by the Irish newspaper Irish Independent.
As the Irish Independent reports, citing a report from the Dublin holding company Larian, the studio’s revenue in 2023 (when Baldur’s Gate 3 left early access) reached €427 million. In 2022, the same figure was €22.7 million.
Meanwhile, Larian Studios’ pre-tax profit for the same time period rose to €249 million. For comparison, in 2022 the studio recorded a loss of €214 thousand.
The Irish Independent adds that Baldur’s Gate 3 has become Larian Studios’ most successful game – sales reached 15 million copies, and the success allowed the holding company to pay €28 million in dividends in 2024.
In February, Larian reported that the game’s audience “noticeably more” 10 million people, and in March, studio head Swen Vincke said that the project was almost twice as successful as Divinity: Original Sin 2 (7.5 million copies, according to fans’ estimates).
This success allowed Larian to go its own way: at GDC 2024 in March, Vincke shocked fans by announcing that the studio had abandoned development of Baldur’s Gate 4 and expansions for Baldur’s Gate 3 in order to make something new.
Larian is currently working on two “an extremely ambitious RPG”. To implement the plans, the studio opened a new division – it was called Larian Studios Warsaw and is located in the Polish capital.
