Developers from the Russian Callisto Game Studio presented the debut teaser trailer of their mystical third-person action game “Department 34” in the surroundings of an alternative USSR in the 1950s.
Players of “Department 34” will take on the role of an employee of the secret department of the same name of the GKPB organization, created to counteract creatures from the Noosphere – the central concept of the game.
According to the plot, the Noosphere gives birth to monsters from the excesses of human emotions arising as a result of events shocking society. Monsters are creatures from folklore, whose appearance in people’s minds changes over time.
In the role of Victor or Victoria (male and female versions of the main character), gamers will have to investigate incidents of a metaphysical and mystical nature, as well as eliminate monsters that threaten the peace of citizens.
The teaser for “Department 34” published by the developers (version on YouTube) lasts only 37 seconds and demonstrates (from a first-person view) the process of discussing work issues in the department.
The authors promise a unique experience, the atmosphere of the Soviet Union with a touch of mysticism, tactical action with an emphasis on the skills of the heroes (including telekinesis). One of the team’s inspirations was the action movie Control from Remedy.
The release dates and platforms for “Department 34” have not been specified. In May, Callisto Game Studio announced that in order to expand the audience, it transferred the project from the Unreal Engine 5 to Unreal Engine 4.
