On Friday, a meeting of the ROCIT commission for the development of electronic commerce was held, dedicated to the bill on the mandatory pre-installation of RuStore on smartphones and tablets sold in Russia. The bill was introduced to the State Duma by a group of senators and deputies in June and has already been approved in the first reading.
Representatives of ministries, departments and industry participants took part in the meeting, expressing their opinions on this initiative and sharing their forecasts on how the adoption of the law will affect the market. Also participating in the meeting was one of the authors of the project, deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technologies and Communications Anton Gorelkin, who tried to dispel fears that the new law would lead to a ban on the sale of Apple equipment in Russia.
«There will be no ban on the sale of Apple equipment», — the deputy is convinced. He notes that the main objective of the new law is to create conditions under which Apple will allow Russian users to install applications from an alternative store. “In essence, this is the same mechanism that already operates in the EU“,” Gorelkin noted in his Telegram channel, confirming his statement made in November.
The official also criticized the media, which are spreading allegations about an upcoming ban on the sale of Apple devices in Russia. In his opinion, they “trying to manipulate public opinion“, but the bill does not contain “no restrictions that could lead to this».
The approach declared in the document “fully meets the position of ROCIT as an organization that systematically advocates for the protection of the rights of Internet users (and, accordingly, the rights of users of modern gadgets)”, emphasized Anton Gorelkin.
