A few weeks ago, rumors surfaced that Sony was interested in acquiring Kadokawa Corporation. It is the parent company of FromSoftware, which also has a significant number of other assets. We talked about them in more detail, as well as about possible details of the transaction, here.
Previously, Kadokawa Corporation confirmed that Sony had sent a “letter of intent” to complete the transaction, but did not specify its details. Now this fact has been confirmed by Sony representatives.
In an interview with Yahoo Japan, Sony representatives stated that they had indeed formalized their intention to purchase Kadokawa Corporation:
It is true that we made an initial statement of intent. We would be grateful if you would allow us to refrain from further comment.
FromSoftware is one of the corporation’s most interesting assets for Sony, analysts believe. At the same time, a significant part of Kadokawa is comics, anime, science fiction novels, etc.
It was also reported that Microsoft showed interest in Kadokawa some time ago.
