Japanese publisher and developer Capcom, as part of The Game Awards 2024, announced plans to revive two of its forgotten franchises – Onimusha and Okami.
The first new Onimusha in 18 years is called Onimusha: Way of the Sword and is planned for release on PC (Steam), PS5, Xbox Series X and S in 2026 – on the 20th anniversary of the last numbered game in the series, Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams for PS2 .
The events of the game will unfold in Kyoto at the dawn of the Edo period (that is, at the beginning of the 17th century). The main character will be a samurai who has taken possession of the Oni Glove and confronts grotesque otherworldly creatures known as Genma.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword will offer a mixture of epic sword fights and otherworldly forces, dark fantasy inspired by the history of Japan and a full translation into Russian. The announcement trailer is embedded below.
As for Okami, the failed 2006 adventure game from Clover Studio, led by game designer Hideki Kamiya, is getting a sequel after all these years.
The Okami sequel is being produced by Kamiya’s studio Clovers, M-Two, and Machine Head Works, including members of the original development team.
The sequel to Okami has no final name, platforms, or release dates yet, but there is a teaser trailer (attached below). Capcom warns that Amaterasu and company’s new adventure will require… “for a while”.
