Japanese game designer Hironobu Sakaguchi is known as the creator of the Final Fantasy franchise. But he has been working on other games for a long time, being one of the leaders of the Mistwalker studio. It was opened in 2004, and its first full release was the Xbox 360 exclusive Blue Dragon. A year later, the studio released Lost Odyssey, and the two games remain beloved by many JRPG fans to this day.
A few weeks ago, the game Fantasian Neo Dimension from Mistwalker studio was released on Xbox. The project has been exclusive to mobile platforms for several years, and now it has reached consoles and PC, receiving a warm welcome from players.
Hironobu Sakaguchi, in an interview with Famitsu, said that the return to Xbox is a separate exciting moment in the release of Fantasian Neo Dimension. For 17 years, since the release of Lost Odyssey, the studio did not release games for Microsoft consoles, and now they have been able to return:
When I found out that the game was coming to Xbox and Nintendo Switch, I thought, “Oh, they (Square Enix) are targeting the whole world.” I made Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey for Xbox, so I was deeply moved to return to Xbox.
Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey are both available on Xbox One and Xbox Series X | S for backward compatibility. Digital Foundry’s John Linneman previously said that Lost Odyssey is one of the best reasons to buy an Xbox Series X | S. And a Blue Dragon-themed dynamic background was released for Microsoft consoles this year, in memory of departed game designer Akira Toriyama.
