In 2024, there is a lot of discussion about game publishers moving away from exclusivity for individual platforms. This is being said not only in the context of Microsoft, which has openly stated its strategy of releasing games on as many devices as possible, including the Playstation. At the beginning of the year, representatives of Square Enix, who were disappointed with the sales of Playstation exclusives, also spoke about this.
Throughout 2024, several major Playstation exclusives have made their way to Xbox, with Genshin Impact and Death Stranding being the most notable in recent months. There will be even more such projects in 2025, as told by insider Jez Corden. In the material about the new Xbox strategy, he separately noted that former Playstation exclusives will be released more actively next year on Microsoft consoles:
This year we’ve seen games that were previously Playstation exclusives move to Xbox to find new revenue streams. Genshin Impact and Death Stranding are two recent examples. If there weren’t business opportunities on Xbox, we simply wouldn’t have seen it, and sources tell me there are even more unannounced and previously Playstation-exclusive games planned for Xbox in 2025.
Jez Corden did not provide specific games. Probably, first of all, we are talking about projects from third-party studios and publishers, and not directly from Sony teams.
