Ubisoft has repeatedly said that Far Cry is one of the key franchises that they intend to develop. It’s no secret that Far Cry 7 is currently in development, which the company calls “Far Cry of the next generation” in its vacancies. The project has not yet been officially presented, but earlier insiders said that it is already at an advanced stage of development, and its release could take place in 2025. Now data has appeared from Tom Henderson, one of the most accurate Ubisoft insiders.
According to Henderson, Ubisoft currently has two Far Cry games in development. One of them is a classic single player project, what can be considered Far Cry 7, and the other is a multiplayer game. Key details Henderson shared:
- Initially, Ubisoft created one game codenamed Talisker, which was later divided into 2 projects: single-player (Blackbird) and multiplayer (Maverick).
- Blackbird. In the game you will need to save your family in 24 real hours (72 hours in the game). Tom Henderson previously spoke in more detail about this project.
- Maverick. This multiplayer game takes place in the Alaskan wilderness. Here players will have to fight each other, animals and harsh weather in order to survive.
- In the new parts of the franchise, the developers want to move away from the usual “Far Cry formula”. The gameplay will be different, especially in terms of the movement system. Players can expect sliding, parkour and other elements that have not previously been seen in the series. Multiplayer and single-player games will have roughly similar gameplay elements.
- The games are created using the Snowdrop engine, which was used for Star Wars Outlaws.
According to an insider, both games were planned to be released in 2025, but due to difficulties encountered, they were postponed to 2026.
