Czech studio Keen Software House (not to be confused with Enshrouded developers from Keen Games) presented Space Engineers 2 – a sequel to the popular sandbox about construction and survival in space.
Space Engineers 2 will take players into the open world of the newly discovered mysterious Almagest system, which will reveal a compelling narrative with intriguing stories and memorable NPCs as it unfolds.
Space Engineers 2 will offer seamless construction, redesigned controls, an intuitive interface, advanced graphics and a destruction system thanks to the VRAGE3 engine.
You won’t have to wait long for Space Engineers 2. Early access starts on Steam on January 27, 2025. Following the announcement, pre-orders started (including in the Russian segment):
- standard edition (1100 rubles) – game only;
- “Pioneer” edition (1,650 rubles) – game, soundtrack, set of behind-the-scenes materials and exclusive wallpapers (PC and smartphone).
At the start of early access in January, users of Space Engineers 2 will have access to an alpha version of the game with a creative mode. The developers plan to develop the project by releasing separate vertical sections (playable portions):
- vertical slice 1.1 – UGC workshop support (Mod.io);
- 1.2 – improved mechanics and interface;
- 1.5 — modding, the DEVIL editor;
- 2.0 – Almagest system, planets, survival, new tools;
- 3.0 – a water system on a planetary scale (will allow you to create oceans, rivers, lakes, build boats and submarines);
- future vertical slices will add multiplayer, NPCs, story campaign and other elements.
According to Keen Software House, Space Engineers 2 builds on 10 years of work on the original Space Engineers (which sold over 5 million copies) and gives familiar elements more depth, creative freedom and intuitiveness.
They plan to keep Space Engineers 2 in early access for about three years – a full release is scheduled for the end of 2027. In the meantime, Keen Software House will continue to support the first Space Engineers.
