According to online sources, the Russian government has approved a resolution introducing restrictions on cryptocurrency mining in a number of regions. According to available data, a complete ban on cryptocurrency mining has been introduced in ten regions, and in another three, restrictions apply to part of the territories.
In Dagestan, Ingushetia, Kabardino-Balkaria, Karachay-Cherkessia, North Ossetia, Chechnya, the Donetsk and Lugansk republics, as well as in the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, the ban on mining will be in effect from the beginning of 2025 until March 15, 2031. In addition to this, the government has banned cryptocurrency mining in some territories of the Irkutsk region, Buryatia and Trans-Baikal Territory. In these regions, restrictions will apply during energy consumption peaks: in 2025 – from January 1 to March 15, and in subsequent years – from November 15 to March 15.
The report notes that the list of regions where a ban on cryptocurrency mining is introduced is not final. It can be adjusted if the need arises. The purpose of the introduced restrictions is to maintain a balance of energy consumption, taking into account the needs of industry.
Earlier it was reported about the government’s intention to limit mining in a number of regions of Russia. Then the list included the same subjects, with the exception of the Irkutsk region, where it was planned to introduce a ban throughout the entire territory. However, in the final version of the document, the restrictions affected only certain parts of the region.
