In 2021, Avalanche Studios announced the game Contraband at the Xbox presentation. The project was announced as an Xbox and PC exclusive, and no official information has appeared about it since its announcement. Insiders said that this is a cooperative heist game, where transport plays a large role.
As it became known, after 6 years of work on Contraband, the art director of the project, Thomas Klingström, decided to leave Avalanche Studios. His departure became known from LinkedIn, where it is indicated that the specialist left Avalanche studio back in September, and now he is already working at LightSpeed Studios (where legendary game designer Hideaki Itsuno also recently moved).
Thomas Klingström’s profile states that Contraband has been in development since 2018. He was responsible “for the artistic vision and visual identity.” Among other things, his tasks included overseeing a department of more than 35 artists who worked on the game. Before Contraband, Thomas worked on games in the Just Cause series, and in total he worked at the studio for more than 12 years.
Earlier this year, insider Tom Warren said that “Of course, the release of Contraband is still a long way off”.
