The first-person psychological horror anime MiSide, released on December 11 by the duo of Russian indie developers Aihasto with the support of publisher IndieArk (Shochiku in Japan), unexpectedly turned out to be a real hit on Steam.
In two weeks, MiSide received more than 37 thousand “extremely positive” reviews, based on which its rating on Steam is 98%. The peak online of the project last Saturday, December 21, reached 23.7 thousand people.
In the week from December 17 to 24, MiSide made it into the top 30 of the global Steam chart (21st place). In the Chinese segment, the game reached 12th place (a week earlier it was tenth), and in the Russian segment it reached fifth.
“On the eve of the release, we could not imagine that MiSide would be so popular. We are very grateful to every player who supports us!” — the developers wrote in a message dated December 25.
The scale of MiSide’s success has yet to be assessed (Aihasto is in no hurry to brag about the results of the game), but analytical services allow us to draw a rough picture:
- PlayTracker – about 150 thousand copies;
- Gamalytic – 795 thousand copies (from 381 thousand to 1.2 million) and $9.7 million (from $4.6 million to $14.7 million);
- VG Insights – 1.1 million copies and $11.5 million in revenue.
According to the plot, the nameless hero is drawn into the world of his favorite video game by a character from it – the girl Mita, who lacks company. However, everything turns out to be not so simple – there are jump scares and violent scenes.
MiSide costs 550 rubles on Steam and is fully available in Russian. The game offers “pleasant visual style and cozy atmosphere”, “a fascinating story”many mini-games, and with the recent update – also a photo mode.
