Developers from the Russian studio Cats Who Play (“Syria: Russian Storm”) summed up the results of 2024 for their multiplayer real-time military strategy “Frontline” and shared plans for 2025.
According to Cats Who Play, the past year has been “incredibly rich” and was marked by the release of three projects: “The Cutting Edge”, the strategy Terminator: Dark Fate – Defiance (the studio worked on it until March 2022) and the addition We are Legion to it.
Early access for Cutting Edge started in March. Since then, the number of downloads of the game has exceeded 170 thousand people – while eight thousand of them have never launched the strategy.
In August in Ufa, at the Animau-2024 festival, the first championship on the “Front Edge” was held, and at the end of November the game was recognized as the best at the award ceremony of the Moscow RED EXPO exhibition.
Cats Who Play’s number one goal for 2025 is to release a release version of Cutting Edge – “practically from scratch” the entire network component is being rewritten, which will allow “to increase sharply” connection speed and stability.
In addition, it will be possible to assign observers in the game, and in the future – to increase the number of players on the maps and the maps themselves. Following the multiplayer, the team will work on the “game meta,” after which a release will be possible.
The recent news about Steam’s almost complete stop of payments to Russian legal entities forced Cats Who Play to think about alternative distribution and monetization models. The game is currently available for free, but a paid version is planned in the future.
