Since 2023, there have been rumors that Bethesda is working on an updated version of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. They emerged from court documents leaked as part of the Microsoft and FTC proceedings. To be more precise, the Virtuos Games studio is working on the project under the supervision of Bethesda.
In recent days, rumors about the possibility of releasing an updated version of the legendary RPG have intensified. First, insider eXtas1s reported that a remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion on Unreal Engine 5 is indeed in development, and then this information was confirmed by several other opinion leaders who previously had accurate information from the Xbox camp.
Earlier this week, Windows Central’s Jez Corden posted on his social media that the Oblivion remaster would be unveiled in January. As part of the new episode of the Xbox Two podcast, he spoke a little more about this. According to him, what players more often understand as a “remaster, not a remake” is in development. Corden says the project will improve graphics, but don’t expect any improvements to the plot, addition of new items or other content changes.
Jez Corden also expressed his expectations for the project. He believes that the game will be able to switch between modern graphics and classic ones. Corden would also like to see an improved combat system, as he believes that the one used in the game is already significantly outdated.
According to Corden, expect an updated version of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion as a surprise at the January Xbox show.
