Roskomnadzor received more than 135 thousand applications for registration of channels and pages on social networks, the audience of which exceeds 10 thousand users. To date, the regulator has officially registered more than 49 thousand such pages. The TASS news agency writes about this with reference to data from the department’s press service.
“Owners of channels and pages on social networks submitted through State Services more than 135 thousand applications for the inclusion of personal data in the List. As of December 27, more than 49 thousand such pages are registered in the Roskomnadzor List. More than 30 thousand applications were rejected”said a representative of the Roskomnadzor press service. He also added that currently there are no sanctions in the form of administrative liability for failure to comply with the requirements of the current legislation.
Earlier this year, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law providing for the de-anonymization of channel owners in instant messengers whose audience exceeds 10 thousand users. From November 1, owners of such channels and pages on social networks must provide information about themselves to Roskomnadzor. We are also talking about the owners of public channels in messengers. From January 1, 2025, a legal provision will come into force that prohibits advertisers from placing ads on pages and channels with a volume exceeding 10 thousand people if their owners have not provided information about themselves to Roskomnadzor. The agency may direct social networks to restrict access to such channels and pages until their owners provide information that allows them to be identified.
