The editors of Digital Foundry, in a special video, staged an impromptu Graphics of the Year Awards ceremony, where they selected games with the best graphics released in 2024.
Worth mentioning but not included in the list were STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl, Persona 3 Reload, Metaphor: ReFantazio, Tiny Glade, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind and Nightdive Studios releases.
Digital Foundry experts did not rank places ten to four. On the approaches to the top 3 we stopped:
The top 3 rankings opens with Star Wars Outlaws. Experts assessed the consistency of the graphics with the spirit of Star Wars and the advantages of the Snowdrop engine (reflections, lighting, ray tracing). The game was let down by the intro videos.
Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle competed for first place. The first is extremely cinematic (“It’s a stretch to call it a game”), and the second produces an excellent picture, but works at 60 frames/s even on consoles.
Ultimately, Digital Foundry experts chose Indiana. The diversity, content and detail of locations, the competent use of path tracing and flexible performance on different devices played in favor of the project.
In 2023, Digital Foundry experts named Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora the most beautiful, in 2022 they preferred Horizon Forbidden West, in 2021 they awarded the victory to Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and in 2020 they awarded the PC version of Cyberpunk 2077.
