Final Fantasy VII Rebirth producer Yoshinori Kitase spoke about the game’s sales and the implications of its exclusive status in an interview with IGN’s Brazilian branch.
Let’s remember that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth was released in February on PS5 and showed sales below Square Enix’s expectations. Against this backdrop, the company presented a new medium-term strategy – fewer exclusives and more quality games.
The company has not disclosed the exact sales of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. In a conversation with IGN Brazil, Kitase noted that although in the current situation Square Enix “satisfied” results of the game, this cannot continue.
“It has become obvious that in the modern world we can no longer remain exclusive to one platform. I think we should offer the game to as many gamers as possible.”Kitase shared.
Square Enix has already begun to move towards multiplatform: Final Fantasy XVI lost its PS5 exclusive status just over a year after release, and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be released on PC just 11 months after its debut on Sony’s console.
Meanwhile, Final Fantasy VII Remake, which debuted on PS4 in 2020, has not yet been released on Xbox. Square Enix is currently developing the third and final episode of the Final Fantasy VII remake.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be available on Steam and the Epic Games Store on January 23, 2025. Despite the restrictions introduced, the game is available for pre-order in the Russian EGS segment (3,499 rubles).
