Most major game publishers suspended the sale of their products in Russia in the spring of 2022, but some developers waited until January 2025 to make the decision.
Steam users noticed that Hitman: World of Assassination, along with other games in the series and other projects of the Danish studio IO Interactive, disappeared from the Russian segment of Valve’s digital store.
When trying to access the page for Hitman: World of Assassination and other IO Interactive products on Steam, a user with a Russian account is greeted with a notification that the product is unavailable in the region.
It is worth noting that just a week ago Hitman: World of Assassination could be purchased at a discount on Russian Steam as part of the service’s traditionally large-scale winter sale.
As users note, at the end of the winter sale, the game had already disappeared from Russian Steam, but not for long – before 24 hours had passed, Hitman: World of Assassination returned to the segment.
It is unclear whether the return story will repeat itself this time, but it does not seem like a mistake. Hitman: World of Assassination was also removed from sale in the Russian segment of the Epic Games Store, where the holiday sale is still ongoing.
IO Interactive has not yet commented on the situation and has not made any statements about the suspension of sales in Russia. Meanwhile, it is reported that the studio’s games have also become unavailable on Belarusian Steam.
