Publisher Ubisoft has again found itself in an awkward situation due to its knowledge of the Japanese cultural context. The new release date for the open-world action movie Assassin’s Creed Shadows, according to some fans, was not the most successful.
Let us remind you that Assassin’s Creed Shadows was supposed to be released on November 15, 2024, but the release was first postponed to February 14, and the day before, in order to implement changes based on player feedback, they decided to move the premiere to March 20.
As users of social networks have noticed, March 20, 2025 marks a sad anniversary for Japan – 30 years since the sarin terrorist attack in the Tokyo subway, which claimed the lives of 13 people (about 6 thousand more were injured).
In the comments to the find, fans criticized Ubisoft for tactlessness in choosing the release date of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, ignoring the cultural context and yet another “clear disrespect for Japan”.
Users joke that Ubisoft is probably already deliberately stepping on the same rake. “You can’t come up with something like this on purpose. I wouldn’t believe it if it weren’t for Ubisoft.”– realdariusdt never ceases to be surprised.
It is worth noting that the tragedy of 1995 has not yet prevented developers (including Japanese ones) from releasing their games on March 20th. On this day, for example, Doom Eternal and Animal Crossing: New Horizons were released.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows is being created for PC (Steam, Ubisoft Connect, EGS), Mac (App Store), PS5, Xbox Series X and S. Information about the first story addition to the game – Claws of Awaji – appeared on the Valve service page ahead of time.
