The Samsung Galaxy S21 series is gradually coming at the end of its lifetime and now only gets 1 update per quarter.
It had been in the air for a while, but Samsung has now officially confirmed that the Galaxy S21 series has become too old for monthly updates. This does not mean that the devices will no longer receive security updates, but that from now on they receive an update only four times a year. A clear signal that these flagships go to the end of their support period after four years of loyal service.
Samsung says on the updated Security updates Work Scope page that the Galaxy S21, S21+ and S21 Ultra no longer belongs under the category devices that are updated every month. The Galaxy S21 FE will continue to receive monthly updates for the time being, but that will also change in the course of 2025. As soon as the S21 FE also comes from age, that device will also receive only 4 updates per year.
Another 1 year safe
During the launch, Samsung promised that the Galaxy S21 series would receive large Android updates and five years of security updates for four years. The Android 15-update is still on the road, but that will be the last major upgrade for this series. The update to Android 15 would appear somewhere in the coming weeks. Afterwards a safety update comes every quarter, but then it ends. Security problems that are then discovered does not patch Samsung. The Galaxy S21 FE still gets Android 16, which means that this device remains relevant for at least a year longer.
For users of the Galaxy S21 series, this is a good time to think about an upgrade. You do not immediately need a new device and there is a good chance that your phone will still work properly. Yet it is not a bad idea to gradually look at replacement. A year can quickly fly by and after that your device is no longer protected. If you want to continue to install the internet and continue to install apps, it is therefore not a bad idea to get a new device at home.
