Chinese scientists in collaboration with Russians have developed a computing algorithm, which strikingly improves the performance of NVIDIA video cards in scientific and industrial calculations.
Researchers of the Shenzhen University of MSU-bit and the Beijing Technological Institute in cooperation with Russian scientists (Moscow State University) have developed an algorithm that can significantly increase the efficiency of peridynamics calculations-non-channel theory, which is used to model the strength and destruction of materials. It is able to speed up the calculation of the simulation of materials to 800 times.
Peridnamics is widely used to predict the destruction of materials in aerospace, civilian engineering and military spheres. Its traditional algorithms require significant computing resources, which makes large -scale studies slow and impractical. Associate Professor Jan Young and her team solved this problem using NVIDIA CUDA technology to optimize the design of algorithms and memory management.
Their Framwork PD-General reached an 800-fold increase in calculation speeds on the NVIDIA RTX 4070 video cards compared to traditional consistent programs and 100-fold performance compared to parallel OpenMP programs. In large-scale modeling with millions of PD-General particles, he performed 4000 iterative steps in five minutes. For large -scale two -dimensional tasks of the same -axial stretching, he processed 69.85 million iterations in less than two minutes with single accuracy.
Increased computing efficiency means that now researchers can simulate on video cards of a consumer level instead of relying on expensive high -performance computing clusters. This has broad consequences for industries requiring a detailed analysis of materials, in particular military and aerospace industries, construction and industrial developments and the like.
The ability to engage in high -performance modeling on available video cards will help the Chinese and Russians bypass the sanctions imposed on the supply of powerful computers with Western countries. For Ukraine, this means improving the capabilities of Russians in the development of military technologies.
The study was published in Chinese Journal of Computation Mechanics in January 2025. Researchers believe that further development will help improve calculations in other scientific and industrial tasks.
