The strategy sequel won’t be coming in September! The developers have now announced a delay in releasing the game and finally dueling it with Grand Theft Auto VI.
KING Art Games is actually hoping to release the new strategy portion of Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV on September 17, 2026, a few weeks from now. However, that’s all now going to happen as the game has now been officially postponed in a press release.
At least here’s the good news: Dawn of War IV is expected to release in at least 2026, so it won’t slip directly to the upcoming 2027. The makers have set December 3, 2026 as the new release date. Purchasers of the Commander Edition will receive early access and can purchase it starting on November 30, 2026. With this delay, the game’s release date will be closer to GTA 6’s November release, so we’ll be excited to see how sales perform for the so-called strategy epic.
The reason for the delay is that KING Art Games wants to spend more time further improving the game experience. The focus is on optimizing performance, fixing bugs, fine-tuning gameplay, and incorporating player feedback from the latest community test runs.
Creative Director Jan Theysen said: “As we neared the final stages of development, we saw an opportunity to further improve Dawn of War IV and deliver the gameplay experience we had always imagined. The additional time will allow us to further optimize performance, fix bugs and add finishing touches to ensure players have the best gaming experience from day one.”
The launch delay also requires updating the roadmap for the first year after launch. You can see the new release dates for planned content in the image above.
Free updates are planned for the first year after launch, including the return of Crusade mode, new maps, game modes, commanders, and a mission editor. Two major story expansions are also planned.
