Organizers have tightened autonomous control rules to encourage technological development in robots. Remote control is now prohibited at most athletics and competitive events, and the time limit for the 100m dash has been reduced from three minutes to one minute.

In addition to track and field events, the number of scene events has also increased from 6 to 21. The competitions are held in 9 simulated environments such as hotels, factories, libraries, and shopping malls. Professional competitions test robots’ fine motor skills, such as cable routing and tool assembly.

“Once robots master the skills to overcome the last meter, they will be able to turn medals into orders and go directly from the competitive arena to real work.” ——Jiang Guangzhi, Director of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology, said.
