The U.S. Senate has launched a formal investigation into Roblox over child safety concerns.

The U.S. Senate is officially investigating popular gaming platform Roblox over serious concerns about children’s safety. Senators Josh Hawley and Dick Durbin sent a letter to the company’s CEO, David Baszczuki, accusing the platform of failing to adequately protect minors from financial, sexual and physical abuse.

The government intervention was prompted by complaints about the company’s priorities, which allegedly saw revenue growth at the expense of player safety. In response, Roblox Chief Security Officer Matt Kaufman said that the platform has been built on the principle of protecting users from the beginning and is committed to providing all necessary information to the Senate before the August 31 deadline. The investigation adds to a flurry of lawsuits in US states and outright bans on the platform in some countries.
