Author of MMORPG Ragnarok: The New World responds to player criticism after devastating launch on Steam

The developers of MMORPG Ragnarok: The New World have answered questions from players that have accumulated since the game’s release on Steam. The team discussed regional servers, overall progress between platforms, the need for separate launchers, monetization, automation, and interface issues on PC.

We’ve gathered the most important takeaways from the report:

  • The Southeast Asian server is currently available on Steam. The developers are aware of the demand for servers in other regions and plan to gradually roll out servers in the future, but specific regions and dates have not yet been determined. Due to the current remote location of the server, some players may experience increased latency and unstable connections.
  • The Steam version is the same as the game on other supported platforms in Southeast Asia, and the progress is synchronized. However, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau servers operate separately. Characters from these servers cannot be transferred to Southeast Asia.
  • One of the most common questions asked is whether a separate launcher is required after installing a game through Steam. The developers explain that a single account, progress synchronization between PC and mobile devices, and the operation of an anti-fraud system are now required. The team is considering the option of eliminating this extra step but is not yet ready to give a time frame.
  • The developers also discussed changes to the progression and monetization systems. Some consumables have been removed from the Starstone Shop, including Upgraded Dishes, World Tree Leaves, and Concentrated Potions. They are now available through other game systems. Players can obtain up to 6,580 free Star Stones every week through Hoppy Quiz and guild auctions.
  • Valuable items such as mounts and MVP cards can now be sold on the Auction House, and materials, cards, and equipment can be traded between players. Some premium cards can be obtained for free through the game store, and royal equipment can now be obtained in dungeons, MVPs, open worlds, and special treasure chests.
  • As part of the changes, the developers removed combat power indicators, added rewards for exploring the world, and streamlined early dungeons. Exclusively acquired resources from research are now enough to upgrade a full set of gear to +10. Pets can not only be obtained through random attempts, but can also be captured directly in the open world.
  • The author explains the existence of automatic combat and automatic routing. These features are primarily used for daily tasks so that players don’t have to manually perform a lot of repetitive actions before moving on to more complex content. It’s worth noting that this approach is especially important for cross-platform games, since users on different platforms spend different amounts of time playing the game.
  • The team admitted there were issues with the interface. Ragnarok: A New World was originally created for both mobile devices and PC, so the interface and controls on Steam retain the functionality of the mobile version. The developers are considering changing the layout, adding hotkeys, and simplifying menu navigation, but have not yet announced a timetable for implementation.

Ragnarok: New World will be released on Steam in late July 2026. The game received a lot of criticism for its lack of servers outside of Asia, microtransactions, mobile interface, and auto-battle. The project’s current rating is 29%.
